The Mediterranean Pediatric Centre – CPM, promoted by MedChild Institute, is meant, in all respects, as an excellence pediatric hospital for the Mediterranean.
CPM, as such, has been submitted to the attention of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so to be “adopted” by the Italian Government.
CPM consolidates the whole pediatric initiatives promoted by MedChild and IME according to a participative approach of co-operation based upon:
- the transfer of clinical and scientific knowledge also through joint research projects, continuous education of healthcare operators, tele-health care for sharing diagnostic and treatement protocols, support to Partners for a sustainable development of pediatric systems;
- missions with pediatric ships and mobile land units;
- hospitalization in Italy of complex cases that exceed locally available care capacity;
- promotion of pediatric drugs.
CPM will be constituted of:
- “Mediterranean sections” of pediatric health organisations that are members of MedChild or part of IME network;
- The pediatric ship, managed in collaboration with the Italian Navy (Marina Militare Italiana) and available, in the case of emergencies, to the Civil Protection Department;
- mobile pediatric units;
- tele-health care networks;
- reference centre for pediatric medicine.
The centre and purpose of the project is the child. Particular attention will therefore be given to receiving children and their relatives, with a suitable interaction with the religious and cultural context, the humanisation of treatment process, education and play as part of the whole process.
